What was Knights Chess?

Knights Chess was an online platform that combined real-time chess with Omegle-style random video matchmaking. You'd click a button, get paired with a stranger from anywhere in the world, and play a game of chess — face to face, over video chat. No account needed. Just chess and a good conversation.

FAQ

Why is Knights Chess shutting down?

Building and maintaining an active player base takes a lot of continuous effort — community management, matchmaking balance, keeping the servers healthy. It's something I genuinely don't have the time for right now. Rather than let the experience degrade, it felt right to close things down properly and say a proper goodbye.

How many people played?

More than I ever expected when I shipped the first version. At peak we had 620 active players, 215 games played in a single day, 1,920 unique visitors a month, over 50,700 requests a month, and a post that pulled in 40,000 views on Reddit. Really humbling numbers for a side project.

To every player who sat down, hit "Get Started," and played a game with a stranger — thank you. You made this more than just a side project.

It was Knights to Meet You. ♟️
